The Tank
The tank's design can be drawn back to the 18th century but was drastically improved on during World War I. No one individual can be responsible for the development of the tank, rather a number of technological advancements brought the developments of the tank closer until it was finally unveiled by the British army. The first combat tank was ready by January 1916 and in June 1916 the first production line of tanks were ready. During the tanks first usage during battle, the German opponents were stunned. Although the attack itself was successful, the tanks proved to be notoriously unreliable.
By the time the war had come to a close, the British has produced 2,636, the French produced 3,870, and the Germans, only a mere 20. Both the United States and Italy produced their own tank designs that were based on a French model, which showed that the French tanks were proving to be more serviceable and efficient than its opponents. Tank design continued to improve as the war progressed and is still widely used to this day.
